We had a great evening celebrating International Women’s Day in the House of Lords on Wednesday with a room full of brilliant women and men from the tech sector, and those passionate about tech policy.
It was wonderful to be able to hold this event with amazing speakers Paul Scully MP, Minister for Tech and Sherry Coutu CBE, serial entrepreneur & investor in successful companies such as LinkedIn & LoveFilm.
The session was expertly moderated by our brilliant Chair Baroness Nicky Morgan, who is hugely knowledgeable about the tech sector thanks to her work as a former DCMS SoS.
In her introductory remarks, our cofounder Resham Kotecha explained why she and Prasanna Kannan cofounded CFTech, and why the CFTech team wanted to do an IWD event
- The Tech sector in the Uk is worth >$1trillion
- >3mill people work in the UK tech sector
- Last year the Tech sector raised £24b, more than France and Germany combined
BUT
- 77% of tech director roles are filled by men
- 26% of Tech sector roles are held by women
As our cofounder Prasanna Kannan explained in his closing remarks, for the tech sector to continue to grow and succeed, we need ongoing dialogue between Govt and the sector.
