COADEC x CFTech - Fireside chat with Kwasi Kwarteng

We were very excited that Kwasi Kwarteng, senior member of Liz's leadership team - and Secretary of State for BEIS spoke at a CFTech x COADEC event last week to talk about Liz's vision for the tech sector. Our cofounder, Resham Kotecha introduced Kwasi and set out the importance of the tech sector.

The UK tech sector is now valued at $1 trillion - a landmark milestone that has only been reached by the US and China. To put that into perspective, that's more than double the value of Germany's, and almost 5 times larger than France.

The UK is now home to 122 unicorns - with more than 20 cities and towns home to at least one unicorn, along with 248 futurecorns.

Government research published last year found that the sector is on track to add £190b in value to the UK economy, and to create nearly 700,000 jobs over the next 3 years alone.

Last year a new tech unicorn was created every eleven days, more than doubling the number of UK unicorns from 2017.

The importance of the tech sector - and therefore, the importance of having dialogue and conversation between Govt and the sector is why we set up the Conservative Friends of tech - and why it is so important that our next leader, and Prime Minister, is committed to growing the tech sector and ensuring that the UK is truly the best place in the world to found, grow or float a tech business.

Big thanks to our friends at COADEC for organising and collaborating with us on the event - follow CFTech or sign up to our newsletter to be informed of future events!
